Math sample of what we're up to in September.

We are on Chapter 1: Patterns in Mathematics.  I use the Math Focus 6  text book and various other resources including Jump Math 6.1 and 6.2.  There is a Jump Math Home Workbook I use with my own children to reinforce curriculum outcomes.  This workbook I purchased myself on Amazon.com but I know it's also available at McNally book store.

Mixed math fact operations are another element I need students to be memorizing.  Without the addition, subtraction, division and multiplication basic facts down cold, the grade 6 math becomes extremely overwhelming for students.  I will be tracking progress in this  throughout the year.  I also will be uploading the drills on this blog site as a means of encouraging students to prepare in advance.

Students can expect a Chapter final exam in the coming week or so and marks in grade 6 move to percentage averages for report cards.  I encourage students to try practice tests online at www.nelson.com/mathfocus.

In the future I plan on webcasting math lessons so students can listen, pause, repeat and see math lessons that may have been unclear.  I will not post video of students; only me and the digital projection of the whiteboard, however this will be during class time.  In the past, this has been very helpful for everyone, particularly if students have been away.

Happy numbering!  Jenn Kerr
